North Platte, Neb. – The North Platte Public School District Board of Education (BOE) passed a very exciting merger that will improve efficiencies across the district Monday night. Tonight a task force, formed in January, presented a proposal that would merge Buffalo and Lincoln Elementaries.
During the April BOE meeting, the task force made its final proposal to the NPPSD Board of Education for approval. This proposal included benefits of the merger that address the addition of a full-time counselor and the development of a three-track elementary school. A three-track system at Lincoln Elementary will allow for smaller class sizes, resulting in a more even distribution of the number of students, students with special needs, and students with behavioral issues throughout each grade level (aligning to the district goal of K-2 (20-22) & 3-5 (22-24) – district average). Additionally, this merger will allow Buffalo Elementary to become a premier site for pre-school in the district, which includes two Head Start classrooms. This proposal outlined efficiencies in building/ classroom utilization, no need for transportation to and from each building, and administrative support.
The newly approved merger has given the district the opportunity to consolidate and re-align pre-school and elementary classes across the district. The following options will be offered at each school.
